When I was nine years old, my mum told me I couldn’t go to the boys school and when I was 17, my doctor whispered when asking me about my “menstrual cycle.” I didn’t understand a lot of the world then and I still don’t now. But I’m trying to do something about it.
After having studied law at University College Cork and completing a master’s in law and economics at Utrecht University, I decided to focus on my passion and hone my areas of expertise which are all things gender equality, feminism, and women’s rights. I created my own website and social media channels where I share videos and writings on everything from street harassment to global threats to reproductive freedom. Six years on from graduating from the wrong thing, I graduated from the right thing - a master's in Gender, Justice and Society and I work with gender equality organisations every day so I pretty much made my dreams come true.
Having worked in top Irish law firms, the European Parliament, UN Women, social impact consulting firms, digital communications agencies, and volunteered with various women’s rights organisations in Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, UK, Belgium, and the US, I have a well-rounded background in the legal, economic, political, and civil society spheres and these experiences, coupled with my skills in communications, M&E/OD, events organisation, and administration make me confident in my ability to excel at any task that comes my way.
I am incredibly passionate about improving the everyday experiences of women through every possible means. My goal is for women to be able to walk down the street at night and not be afraid.
I am always looking for new opportunities in the gender equality sphere. If you are interested in getting to know me better or would like to collaborate, please check out my Work with me page and get in touch at contactlaurenfoley@gmail.com.
